A private homeowner wanted to take a step toward a more sustainable lifestyle without installing solar panels on their roof. Instead, they sought a solution that could both generate their own electricity and enhance the property’s appearance. The solution was a carport with solar panels —an option that combines functionality, aesthetics, and environmental benefits.
In collaboration with our British partner Pure Energy, Innoventum delivered a complete solar carport, certified to the MSC standard. This wooden structure was seamlessly integrated with the home’s electrical system and enables electric cars to be charged directly using clean solar energy. The result is a solution that offers both financial and environmental benefits—without compromising on design.
The solar carport creates a mini-grid
The project involved the installation of Innoventum’s wooden solar carport, including solar panels, charging infrastructure, and battery energy storage. A total of 15 high-performance bifacial solar panels with a combined output of 6.3 kWp were installed. The carport’s structure consisted of sustainable FSC-certified glulam, and the waterproof mounting system protects vehicles from the elements year-round. The solution also included a 10 kWh battery for storing surplus energy, providing access to solar power even in the evenings and on cloudy days. For added functionality and comfort, the carport was also equipped with LED lighting and an integrated gutter, which both enhance safety and extend the structure’s lifespan.
The challenge for the customer was to find a solution that not only generates green electricity but also provides added value both aesthetically and financially. The goal was for the electricity to be sufficient to charge the electric car daily without causing the electricity bill to skyrocket. At the same time, they wanted to avoid negatively impacting the home’s appearance with roof-mounted panels. The carport also needed to qualify for sustainability certification and financial incentives, such as green electricity contracts and government grants. Thanks to Innoventum’s solution, all requirements were met. The customer quickly and easily obtained a building permit for the installation. The carport blended naturally into the property’s surroundings, and thanks to the wooden structure, the result was both warm and inviting. The screw-based foundation also meant that the installation could be completed without concrete pouring or soil disturbance, further reducing the environmental impact.
The bifacial solar panels capture sunlight from both sides, allowing them to generate more energy than traditional panels. This means that the household can not only cover its regular electricity consumption but also charge its electric car using solar energy—without any increase in electricity costs. With the installed 10 kWh battery, the customer was able to store electricity for later use, providing a stable and reliable energy supply around the clock.

Benefits of a Carport with Solar Panels, Batteries, and Home EV Charging
The financial impact was clear. Thanks to MSC certification, the customer was able to access green credits and government subsidies. In addition, solar power generation opened up new opportunities to negotiate electricity contracts with providers such as Octopus Energy, which further reduced costs. In a short time, the investment began to pay for itself, both through lower electricity bills and increased property values. Since the installation, the customer has experienced a noticeable change in both daily life and finances. Electricity bills have decreased significantly, the energy system has become more self-sufficient, and the car is charged daily with renewable energy—right from the driveway. The LED lighting contributes to safety in the evenings and makes the carport usable even when it’s dark. The integrated gutter effectively drains rainwater, which protects the structure and extends its lifespan.
Innoventum’s solar carport demonstrates that it is entirely possible to combine design, sustainability, and technology into a solution that enhances life at home. For those who want to make a climate-smart choice without compromising on aesthetics or convenience, a solar carport is a future-proof choice.
